The Feast of Sacrifice

We celebrated the feast of sacrifice .

In fact, our feast of sacrifice comes to us from prophet Abraham( İbrahim) and his son Ishmael (İsmail).
This story is as bellow:
Prophet Abraham was promised by God that he would have a son.İbrahim hadn’t had a child by the time he reached 86.His wife Sara was also very old by modern day standarts-she was 90-
But İbrahim was married with hagar –Sara’s servant—with Sara’s consent and Abraham had a child named İsmail. Abraham very loved İsmail.
One day God asked him, to test his faith, to sacrifice İsmail. But as Abraham was about to slit the boy’s throat, an Angel Cebrail appeared and pointed out that there was a ram caught in a nearby bush, it was to be sacrifice instead and it was.

The lesson to be learned is trust in God and accept what it is beter God’s love than İsmail’s love.
İslam however describes İbrahim as one of the early prophets with Adam being the first and Mohammed the last. Within this, other prophet include Noah,Moses, David,Solomon,Jesus and others. The Prophet Mohammed is said to be a descandant of İbrahim.

We keep still our tradition ,we put on your new clothes on the festival day and go to the mosque to pray in the early morning. Well, actually the men go to the mosque to pray, while the women stayed at home to prepare food. When men return home, we eat a big substantial meal. Relatives kiss together. The younger people kiss their older relatives and parants’s hands. The kids get Money from their older people.

Best wishes all of you from Turkey
